For many people in Sweden, summer means four weeks of vacation abroad. But for students like Vivianne and Charles, the summer is a time to expand their minds with some real-world experience. Both students at the Stockholm School of Economics, Vivianne and Charles have chosen to spend their summer with us here at Trustly, where they are diving into competitor analysis and lead generation, with the occasional break to explore virtual reality. Let’s take a moment to get to know them a bit more.
Hi there, nice to meet you! Can you tell us a little about yourselves?
Charles: Hi, nice to meet you, too! My name is Charles. I’m 22 years old and from the outskirts of Helsingborg in the “Deep South” of Sweden. I just graduated from a bachelor’s program in Business and Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics, with a thesis in empirical asset pricing, a research area within financial economics.
Vivianne: My name is Vivianne and I’m 21 years old from Norrtälje, Sweden. In September, I will begin my third year of the same program Charles just completed.
Impressive! How did you hear about Trustly? What made you want to spend your summer with us?
Vivianne: In school and in newspapers, it’s hard to not hear about successful FinTech companies. Trustly is a really cool and fast-growing company and I knew that I would learn a lot if I got the opportunity to work here.
Charles: I read an ad on my uni’s career site for the summer position, and after I researched the company a bit more, I was hooked. I’ve been eager to get some first-hand experience in the FinTech industry for some time, so I was really glad to be offered the position.
Off the bat, what’s the coolest thing about working at Trustly?
Vivianne: The entrepreneurial feeling! Trustly is a rather big company, but even so, it sometimes feels like I’m working at a start-up. Oh, and of course, the after-works on the roof every Friday!
Charles: I’d say the HTC Vive at the top floor of the office, no doubt. I’ve tried Oculus Rift before, but this was an entirely different virtual reality experience.
It sounds like a lot of parties and games, but surely you must do some work too, right? What types of projects are you working on?
Charles: We are currently doing competitor analyses for the different European markets Trustly operates in.
Vivianne: It’s fun but challenging! We’ve also done a lot of lead generation, which is something I’ve never done before. I really like it because you feel like a detective when you are working with leads!
What are your plans for the autumn?
Charles: This fall I’m enrolling in the master’s program in Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics. I’ll also do some teaching assistant work in a bachelor’s course in International Economics at the uni.
Vivianne: I’ll be heading to Rotterdam as an exchange student at Rotterdam School of Management. I’m really looking forward to that!
What advice would you give to someone interning at Trustly next summer?
Vivianne: Be curious! Don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions. The people here are really talented and helpful.
Charles: Yeah, even though the workforce is young, your co-workers will be highly competent and experienced. So if you ask questions, you will learn a ton. And of course, don’t forget to try out that VR set — although there will probably be a newer and even cooler tech toy by next summer!
What’s your best summer Stockholm tip?
Charles: I think the correct answer to that question is Trädgården.
Vivianne: Or boule in Rålis when it’s sunny ... and the ABBA Museum when it’s raining!
Great tips! Enjoy the rest of your summer at Trustly and see you around!
